Broncos re-signing LB Alex Singleton to 3-year contract

The Denver Broncos are re-signing inside linebacker Alex Singleton to a three-year, $18 million contract, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis.

Because he is an in-house free agent, Singleton does not have to wait until the NFL’s new league year begins on Wednesday to officially sign. His new contract will average $6 million per season and includes $9 million guaranteed.

Singleton (6-2, 240 pounds) went undrafted in the 2015 NFL draft out of Montana State and then spent time with the Seattle Seahawks, New England Patriots and Minnesota Vikings as a rookie. Singleton was then selected in the first round of the 2016 CFL draft by the Calgary Stampeders.

After not appearing in any regular-season games in the NFL as a rookie, Singleton went to Canada and won the league’s Defensive MVP award and earned CFL All-Star recognition in 2017 and 2018. After winning the Grey Cup (Canada’s Super Bowl), Singleton returned to the NFL with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2019.

Singleton became a key special teams player in Philadelphia and then emerged as a starter on defense, totaling 262 tackles in three seasons (42 games). After that, Singleton signed a one-year deal with the Broncos last spring.

The expectation was that Singleton would play primarily on special teams in 2022, but Denver had multiple injuries at inside linebacker so Singleton ended up starting 12 games on defense and he led the team with 163 tackles.

Singleton, 29, will now remain with the Broncos as a projected starter going forward.
