Broncos RB Royce Freeman battled through injury in 2018

Broncos rookie running back Royce Freeman was overshadowed by breakout rookie running back Phillip Lindsay in Denver last season. To make matters worse for him, Freeman suffered a high ankle sprain early in the year.

“Battling through it throughout the year, I think it was mostly something you had to nurture and take care of,” Freeman said during a press conference earlier this week.

“Making sure I was in the treatment room taking care of that. Making sure that I was putting in the time as well as learning the playbook week to week and battling through that. The offseason [will] definitely help out a lot.”

Freeman’s ankle had time to fully recover this offseason, allowing him to hit the ground running when the regular season arrives.

“I was able to have some downtime,” Freeman said. “That was really good. Getting into the treatment room and things like that — coming up with a program definitely nursing it a little bit more.”

Freeman rushed 130 times for 521 yards and five touchdowns as a rookie. Broncos fans should expect him to be much more involved in the team’s offense in 2019.
