Broncos RB Phillip Lindsay took advantage of ‘mental reps’ while sidelined

After undergoing wrist surgery, Denver Broncos second-year running back Phillip Lindsay was sidelined for much of the team’s offseason program. The Pro Bowler had to watch as Royce Freeman and Devonate Booker practiced and caught passes from new quarterback Joe Flacco.

Attending practice was still purposeful for Lindsay, though, because he got mental reps will watching his teammates.

“I definitely can,” Lindsay said after practice on June 5. “I see it out there. You see the mistakes, so you get a mental rep on it. I still have my legs. That’s what people forget. You can still go through the motions of things and run the routes. They just don’t let me catch balls and certain things like that.”

After wrapping up minicamp Thursday, Lindsay and his teammates are now off until reporting back for the start of training camp in mid-July. Lindsay should be fully recovered in time for camp — he just needs to make sure he’s conditioned after returning from injury.

“The biggest thing is it’s about being in shape in this offense,” Lindsay said. “You have to be in shape. I want to help my team win a lot of games, so I’m going to have to stay in shape.”
