Broncos QB Joe Flacco recalls his draft-day experience

The 2019 NFL draft will begin Thursday, and the lives of top college football prospects will be changed forever.

In 2008, quarterback Joe Flacco entered the draft after a record-setting career at Delaware. He described his draft-day experience to media members in Denver this week.

“I remember not wanting any cameras in my house, but eventually folding and having somebody come to my house,” Flacco said April 16. “I didn’t know when I was going to be picked. I could’ve been a third-round pick and I could’ve been a first-round pick. Obviously, it was a pretty good day for me.

“It’s an exciting time. To become an NFL player, or at least have a chance to be an NFL player, it’s a pretty special moment. You can’t take for granted how much hard work it takes to get to this league and get to where these guys are about to get to. It’ll be a lot of fun for guys, I think.”

Flacco was selected by Baltimore with the 18th overall pick in 2008, and he went on to spend the first 11 years of his career with the Ravens. He went on to help Baltimore win Super Bowl XLVII after the 2012 season.
