Broncos QB Drew Lock has ‘still got a lot of work to do’

Broncos rookie quarterback Drew Lock went 7-of-11 for 34 yards in Denver’s 14-10 win over the Falcons in the Hall of Fame Game on Thursday evening. The second-round draft choice finished the day with a 68.0 passer rating, not exactly a sign of a good showing.

“I was hoping for more, but [I’m] not surprised,” Broncos coach Vic Fangio said after the win. “He’s still got a lot of work to do. I thought his accuracy wasn’t clean all the time along with his reads, but that’s to be expected.

“We’ve got four more games and we’ve got to get him ready, more ready than he is right now.”

At the moment, Kevin Hogan looks like the clear choice to be the backup quarterback. As Fangio noted, though, Lock will have four more games this month to show improvement.

“I think that’s what you can expect from an opener — couple ups, couple downs,” Lock told reporters after the game. “I think it’s good that we can look at it — there’s a lot of things that we can work on, especially myself, and go on and get ready for the next one.”

Up next for Lock is a road game against the Seahawks on Aug. 8.
