Broncos QB Drew Lock has uncertain recovery timeline

During his pre-practice media availability Thursday, Broncos coach Vic Fangio said there was no new information about quarterback Drew Lock’s recovery timeline.

“Obviously because it’s his throwing hand and a thumb, that’s a pretty serious injury for a quarterback,” Fangio said. “It will be some time before we know exactly where he’s at and how much time he would miss.”

Lock suffered a sprained thumb in the team’s third preseason game and he’s expected to miss several weeks.

Fangio was asked if the team might consider placing Lock on injured reserve with a designation to return. The coach said they may consider it depending on how much time they think the QB will miss.

Lock wasn’t able to provide any clarity on how long his recovery may take.

“I’m not 100 percent sure,” Lock said. “Just going to leave that up to the people in that room to kind of evaluate it a little bit.

“I know my pain tolerance. I know that level of stuff, but I think they’re going to make the best decision on when I should be stepping back out on the football field.”
