Broncos QB Drew Lock benefited from joint practices with 49ers

Broncos rookie quarterback Drew Lock benefited from the team’s two joint practices against the 49ers on Friday and Saturday.

“Our defense is mainly a 3-down [lineman] defense, 3-4 — they were a lot of 4-down [lineman],” Lock said after practice Saturday. “The rules change. A lot of different things. A lot more two-high instead of single-high stuff, but then they mixed it in. Just really kind of the exact opposite of what we normally see in practice.”

Going against a different defense in practice helped Lock continue his development and it might help him play well against San Francisco on Monday. So far, Denver general manager John Elway has been pleased with what he’s seen from the young quarterback.

“He continues to get better,” Elway said. “He’s been overloaded. Anytime you have young guy like that, he’s going to have his good days and he is going to have his bad days. Obviously, we’re excited still about the talent that he has and what he has showed . . . . It’s going to take him some time, but he’s done a nice job.”

The Broncos have not yet announced if Lock will be the second or third quarterback to play against the 49ers.
