Broncos players have given Joe Flacco two nicknames

Before he arrived in Denver, Joe Flacco was sometimes referred to as “Joe Cool.” If his new Broncos teammates have anything to say about it, Flacco may leave Denver with a new nickname — or two.

Broncos wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders has given his new quarterback a flattering moniker, which is probably a good idea if he wants to be thrown to this season.

“Joe is smooth,” Sanders said after practice Thursday. “I call him ‘Pretty Boy Flacco,’ that’s his name. He’s just smooth. Even from saying, ‘Down, set, hut,’ he’s just very thoughtful of how he moves.

“I’ve never seen a quarterback move like that, the way he spins it and he’s just had a lot of success. He’s been in the league a very long time, so I am looking forward to just keep growing and growing and growing.”

Garett Bolles, the presumed starter at left tackle, has given his QB a different, perhaps a little less endearing, nickname: “Papa Joe.”

“If you’ve got five kids and you’re — I don’t know, 35? — I don’t know how old he is, but I’ve got to call him ‘Papa Joe,'” Bolles said Thursday. “I’m a young guy, so he’s like the dad of the team so I have to mess with him a little bit.”

It’s probably safe to assume neither of those nicknames will catch on outside of the locker room, which is probably good news for Flacco.
