Broncos players following Russell Wilson’s example: ‘It makes you up your game’

The artist Kanye West raps “to whom much is given much is tested.”

In Russell Wilson‘s case, he’s been afforded a 10-year career worthy of a Hall of Fame nomination. Two Super Bowl appearances. A Super Bowl ring. And he’s the career-leader in all of the Seattle Seahawks’ major passing categories.

Now, Wilson puts past success to the test by joining the Broncos.

Wilson’s a winner. That’s great news for a Broncos team that hasn’t had a winning season since 2016. And worse, the team hasn’t earned a playoff spot since 2015, nearly a decade ago. So, the 2022 Broncos are following Wison’s example thus far in OTAs, according to veteran wide receiver Tim Patrick.

Last week, Patrick said, “When you see someone carry themselves the right way every day, it makes you up your game not to slack and to put winning first. At the end of the day, we’re all here to win a Super Bowl and if our quarterback does it, no one has an excuse not to do it.”

Wilson has been reporting early to the facility each morning to work on his own, prompting others to follow his lead. “If you see ‘Russ’ doing it and you’re not doing it — if you can’t put in extra work, you’re not serious about winning and you don’t belong on this team.”

It’s not just Patrick that’s been praising the QB. Javonte Williams, too, said the newly-acquired quarterback is “like a coach on the field.”

That’s the kind of leadership Denver needs at quarterback.
