Broncos plan to keep Kareem Jackson at safety

The Broncos are thin at cornerback and one possible solution could be to move Kareem Jackson to cornerback and have Will Parks start across from Justin Simmons at safety.

Jackson had a great game playing as a safety against the Chargers last week, though, and coach Vic Fangio would like to keep him there.

“He played well, that was pretty obvious,” Fangio said Monday. “We’d like to keep him there. I make no secret of that. You can argue he can play other positions better than the people we have there. We’ve got to weigh all that in the final analysis, but it would be my preference to keep him at safety.”

Jackson racked up 10 tackles on Sunday and forced a fumble. He believes his tackling ability is part of what makes him a good safety.

“I think my tackling is one the strengths of my game,” Jackson said Tuesday. “I’ve always been a willing tackler, even back to my rookie year. It’s just one of those things I take pride in because not a lot of guys in secondaries around the league like to get dirty and tackle. For me, I feel like throughout the game, that can definitely turn some situations around.

“You might have a couple of guys come across the middle and may not like to get hit. In those cases, maybe we can get at deflection or something, maybe they may not want to catch the ball and we can get a pick or whatever the case may be. I just try to put my body on their body and do whatever I’ve got to do to get them down.”

Jackson missed one game with a hamstring injury but has otherwise had a great start to the season, totaling 26 tackles and breaking up three passes. He signed a three-year deal with Denver in March that runs through the 2021 season.
