The Denver Broncos are placing tight end Bug Howard (ankle) and cornerback Horace Richardson (back/hamstring) on injured reserve, The Denver Post’s Ryan O’Halloran first reported Wednesday.
Because the two players were placed on injured reserve before the Broncos submitted an initial 53-man roster, Howard and Richardson will not be eligible to return after eight weeks. Unless they reach an injury settlement with Denver, the two players will sit out the 2019 season.
The Broncos now have two open spots on the 90-man offseason roster. One of them might go to rookie cornerback Josh Miller. Denver is giving Miller a workout Wednesday, according to The Athletic’s Nicki Jhabvala.
Miller (5-11, 180 pounds) totaled 46 tackles, two interceptions and four pass breakouts during his senior year in 2018. He might have been selected in the late rounds of April’s draft if not for a foot injury.
Jhabvala pointed out on Twitter that Miller can also return kicks, but his college bio indicates that he only returned two kicks in college. Still, with nobody standing out in the Broncos’ returner competition, Miller might be a name to watch if Denver ends up signing him.
