Broncos place DL Billy Winn on injured reserve

After signing running back Theo Riddick to a one-year contract, the Broncos needed to make room for him on the 90-man offseason roster. A spot on the roster was created Saturday when Denver placed defensive lineman Billy Winn (arm) on injured reserve, ending his season.

The news was first reported by KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis and has since been confirmed by multiple media outlets.

Winn (6-4, 300 pounds) entered the league as a sixth-round pick out of Bosie State with the Browns in 2012. After spending the first three years of his career in Cleveland, Winn spent the 2015 season with the Colts before joining the Broncos in 2016.

Winn dressed for all 16 games in 2016 and totaled 19 tackles. He was poised to have a larger role in 2017 before he suffered a season-ending injury in the team’s first preseason game. Winn then sat out the entire 2018 season before re-signing with Denver earlier this year.

Unfortunately, Winn suffered another season-ending injury in Thursday’s preseason opener against the Falcons. The 30-year-old defender will spend 2019 on reserve.
