Broncos' Peyton Manning reportedly preparing to play next season

Feb. 10--Peyton Manning hasn't said publicly whether he'll be returning for an 18th NFL season, but all signs are pointing toward the veteran quarterback playing at least one more campaign with the Denver Broncos.

According to the New Orleans Times-Picayune, Manning has been working with trainer Mackie Shilstone in an effort to get ready for the 2015 season. Shilstone, according to the newspaper, specializes in extending the careers of veteran athletes and has worked with tennis star Serena Williams, boxer Roy Jones Jr. and Baseball Hall of Famer Ozzie Smith.

Manning reportedly is planning to talk with John Elway, the Broncos' executive vice president of football operations and general manager, before announcing he will play next season.

Elway told reporters after the Broncos' AFC divisional loss to the Indianapolis Colts that he believed Manning would be back to play next season. The Denver Post reported last month that Manning was expected to commit to another season after having his injured thigh and surgically repaired neck evaluated.

Manning, 39, was the NFL's oldest quarterback last season, but that didn't stop him from leading the Broncos to a fourth-consecutive AFC West title.

Manning passed for 4,727 yards and 39 touchdowns with 15 interceptions last season en route to earning his 14th Pro Bowl selection. Manning needs 2,148 yards to pass Brett Favre's NFL record for most career passing yards.

Despite his late-career accomplishments, Manning has struggled in the postseason with the Broncos, posting a 2-3 record.

Elway has said he believes Manning is key component to the team's goal of winning a Super Bowl next season.
