Broncos OT Ja’Wuan James eager to work with Chris Kuper and Mike Munchak

After signing a four-year, $51 million contract with the Denver Broncos, right tackle Ja’Wuan James will be reunited with assistant offensive line coach Chris Kuper, who worked with James with the Miami Dolphins.

Kuper now works for the Broncos, serving under new offensive line coach Mike Munchak.

“It will help a lot,” James said of having Kuper on staff. “I love ‘Kup.’ ‘Kup’s helped over the last three years and he’s going to help with the transition as well as Coach Munchak. I just got done talking to him and I’m excited to work with him. He’s one of the best in the business. I feel like he’s going to help me reach my full potential.”

James said that he met with Munchak for an hour before his press conference Friday. That meeting left James “riled up” and excited for 2019. In Denver, he will start across from Garett Bolles on the team’s offensive line.

“We really like him,” Broncos general manager John Elway said of James. “He’s a good fit for us with what we want to do with the zone scheme and outside-zone. He’s a physical guy and he plays hard. We’re excited about him.

“There is no question that hopefully he solidifies — we’re planning on him solidifying that right tackle for us. We really feel good about the two young tackles that we now have and what we’re doing. We’ll just continue to get better there.”

James will be a key part of Denver’s new-look offensive line in 2019.
