Broncos opted not to use 2nd overall pick in NFL’s supplemental draft

The Broncos were awarded the second overall pick in the NFL’s 2019 supplemental draft earlier this week based on a weighted lottery, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis. Denver opted not to use the selection.

The Lions held the No. 1 pick and they also passed.

The supplemental draft, designed for players that did not enter the spring draft but are eligible for the NFL, saw just one player selected this year. The Cardinals selected Washington State defensive back Jalen Thompson in the fifth round, forfeiting their fifth-round pick in the 2020 NFL draft.

The Broncos haven’t selected a player in the supplemental draft since 1989 when they landed Alabama running back Bobby Humphrey in the first round. He went on to earn a Pro Bowl selection in 1990 and was the first player in franchise history to rush for 1,000 yards in consecutive seasons (1989-1990).

Notable players selected in recent supplemental drafts include wide receiver Josh Gordon (2012) and quarterback Terrelle Pryor (2011).
