Anyone who’s ever played quarterback at any level — even in the backyard — knows that it’s harder to be an accurate passer when there’s pressure in your face. When a QB is under duress, he may have to throw the ball sooner than he wants to, or he might not be as accurate with his throw as he usually is.
With that being the case, defensive backs love pass rushers that get after the quarterback quickly. A fast pass rush doesn’t allow offenses to have long routes and it often disrupts a QB’s timing with his receivers.
So it’s no surprise that new Broncos safety Kareem Jackson is thrilled to be playing with edge defenders Von Miller and Bradley Chubb.
“They are capable of getting after their passer,” Jackson said after practice on July 20. “We’ve seen what Von has been able to do over the years. He’s always being a guy that gets after the quarterback. I’ve just been able to watch from afar, but be able to be here on a day-to-day basis and see how he worked during the offseason and OTAs and minicamps and finally get to camp, I definitely admire his work and work ethic.
“Chubb is the same way. He is going into Year 2, but what he was able to do last year was phenomenal. I’m just excited to get a chance to see those guys up close and personal. I know they are going to make my job a lot easier on Sundays.”
Miller and Chubb combined to record 26.5 sacks last season and Jackson totaled two interceptions in the Texans’ defense. Fans in Denver can probably expect all of those numbers to go up now that Miller, Chubb and Jackson are all playing together.
