Broncos OLB Von Miller dubs Vic Fangio an elite teacher

Speaking to media members after the Broncos’ final training camp practice of the summer Saturday, outside linebacker Von Miller said coach Vic Fangio would probably “be a professor somewhere” if he wasn’t in the NFL.

Before joining Denver’s staff, Fangio became famous as a defensive coordinator and linebacker guru. Miller believes the coach’s teaching ability is a big reason why Fangio has reached the level he has.

“He’s just a great teacher,” Miller said. “I feel like to get to the head coaching spot in the National Football League, you have to be a great teacher. But he’s an elite teacher, excellent teacher, whether it’s breaking down a defense or just simple techniques. He’s a great teacher, and then the guys, all the assistants that he has up under him, my position coach, all the coaches that we have are great teachers as well.

“They definitely know how to relay the message. They definitely know how to coach the proper techniques. They’re great coaches.”

Miller’s position coach is Brandon Staley, the team’s outside linebackers coach. All of Denver’s coaches are good teachers but Fangio seems to be a step above the rest.
