Denver Broncos outside linebacker Dekoda Watson is a 31-year-old journeyman defender who has made a living in the NFL as a special teams contributor. After practice Tuesday, he told members of the media that playing in the league is like being a character in a popular HBO series.
“When it comes down to playing in the NFL, I tell people it’s like watching an episode of ‘Game of Thrones,'” Watson said. “You can never get attached to a team or even some of the players, because you never know what’s going to happen. You’re going to get cut or something. That’s just the nature of the beast. That’s just the type of job and the type of occupation that we’re in right now.”
Great analogy, Watson! Now, speaking of “Game of Thrones,” what did you think of the finale?
“I was so mad about that — that last episode,” Watson said. “Jon Snow did everything, heir to the throne, did everything — gave his life — everything. And ya’ll sent him back . . . ya’ll sent him back to Night’s Watch. That’s baffling, like, don’t get me started.”
Judging from tweets from GoT fans over the last few days, many viewers seem to feel the same way as Watson.
Watson has totaled 152 tackles and six sacks in his career. He’ll have a shot to claim Denver’s special teams throne this year as a team captain, a position he was awarded mid-way through the 2016 season.
