Broncos offseason roster: No. 66, OL Dalton Risner

Broncos Wire‘s 90-man offseason roster series continues today with a look at Denver Broncos fourth-year offensive lineman Dalton Risner, No. 66.

Before the Broncos: Risner (6-5, 312 pounds) played college football at Kansas State and he was one of just five players in school history to serve as a three-year team captain. Risner started 50 of 51 games over four years, playing primarily at offensive tackle in college.

Broncos tenure: Risner was a second-round pick for Denver during the 2019 NFL draft. He made 32 consecutive starts for the Broncos at guard to start his career. Last year he missed two of 17 games. So 47 starts out of a possible 49 in three seasons. Risner has allowed 7.5 sacks in his career. But 5.5 of those came last season. He’s committed five penalties as well.

Chances to make the 53-man roster: Risner — playing on the final year of his rookie deal — might become a cap casualty or trade candidate before Week 1. The Broncos would save approximately $2.7 million by cutting the guard if they’re unable to find a potential partner in a hypothetical trade. Risner’s roster spot might be in jeopardy due to scheme fit and his contract status. If he’s with the team after roster cuts, Risner will presumably slot into one of the team’s two guard spots on the offensive line.
