Broncos move up four spots in NFL power rankings

After defeating the Cleveland Browns 24-19 in Week 9, the Denver Broncos moved up four spots in Nate Davis’ most recent NFL power rankings for USA TODAY Sports. Denver is now ranked No. 23 out of 32 teams.

That still makes the Broncos one of the 10-worst teams in the league — at least in the yes of Davis — but it’s an improvement from being ranked No. 27 last week. Denver will have a bye in Week 10.

Here is Davis’ commentary with the Broncos’ ranking:

After all of John Elway’s infamous “swinging and missing” for a quarterback, how ironic would it be if Brandon Allen winds up as an inside-the-park home run?

Elway’s misses at quarterback include Brock Osweiler and Paxton Lynch. Peyton Manning wasn’t a draft pick but he was certainly a success. Drew Lock hasn’t yet played so it’s unclear if he will be a miss or a home run.

Allen started the year as Denver’s backup and started in the place of an injured Joe Flacco last week. Allen is expected to continue starting after turning in a respectable performance against Cleveland.
