Broncos met with TE Jace Sternberger at NFL combine

The Denver Broncos met with Texas A&M tight end Jace Sternberger at the NFL combine on Wednesday evening, according to The Athletic’s Nicki Jhabvala.

Sternberger (6-4, 250 pounds) earned consensus All-American honors in 2018 after a huge year with the Aggies. After spending two years at Kansas, Sternberger transferred to Texas A&M last year and quickly won a starting job.

He hauled in 48 receptions for 832 yards and 10 touchdowns as a junior after catching just one pass for five yards with Kansas in 2017. Sternberger is the eighth-best tight end in this year’s class, according to Draft Wire.

Denver drafted tight ends Jake Butt (2017) and Troy Fumagalli (2018) in the fifth round of the last two drafts but both of those players have struggled to stay healthy. Jeff Heuerman (2015), a former third-round pick, has also struggled to stay healthy and he’s about to become a free agent. So it’s safe to say the Broncos clearly need more depth at the position.

Charlie Campbell of WalterFootball.com has predicted that Sternberger will be selected between the second and fourth rounds of the draft.

This year’s draft will begin on April 25 and will be held in Nashville.
