Broncos met with TE Drew Sample at NFL combine

The Denver Broncos met with Washington tight end Drew Sample at the 2019 NFL combine, according to The Denver Post‘s Ryan O’Halloran.

Sample (6-5, 255 pounds) ran the 40-yard dash in 4.71 seconds and ran the 20-yard shuttle in 4.31 seconds at the combine. NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein has compared Sample to Jack Doyle, who earned a Pro Bowl nod in 2018.

Sample is the 15th-best tight end in this year’s class, according to Draft Wire’s Luke Easterling (view the complete rankings here).

“Sample was a big part of the team’s success due to his success at blocking in space and power at the point of attack,” Draft Wire’s Gavino Borquez wrote of the tight end in January. “He looks the part of an NFL tight end with his sturdy, large frame and the competitive spirit to match.”

Jake Butt and Troy Fumagalli have struggled to stay healthy and Jeff Heuerman is about to become a free agent so Denver needs to add more depth at the position. Sample may be one of the tight end prospects the Broncos are considering this offseason.
