Broncos met with QB Brett Rypien at NFL combine

The Denver Broncos will not meet with any of the “Big Four” quarterbacks at this year’s NFL combine but they will meet with several of the lesser-known QBs in this year’s class.

Broncos offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello had an informal meeting with Boise State quarterback Brett Rypien on Wednesday evening, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis.

Rypien (6-2, 202 pounds) is the nephew of former NFL quarterback Mark Rypien, who won two Super Bowls with the Washington Redskins. The younger Rypien played four years for college football’s Broncos, earning plenty of accolades.

Rypien’s college accomplishments include Mountain West Offensive Player of the Year honors in 2018 and three All-Mountain West First-Team honors (2015-16, 2018). He completed 64 percent of his passes for 13,578 yards and 90 touchdowns against 29 interceptions from 2015-2018.

Rypien is the seventh-best QB in this year’s class, according to rankings from Draft Wire’s Luke Easterling. Gavino Borquez, who also writes for Draft Wire, predicted in December that Rypien will be a second- or third-round pick in this year’s NFL draft.

“Rypien is a pocket quarterback who displays excellent pocket mobility,” Borquez said of the QB. “His dropbacks are crisp and his movement within the pocket is efficient. He has a quick, compact release and relies on clean legs and hip torque to generate velocity.”

This year’s draft will begin on April 25 and will be held in Nashville.
