Broncos met with Louisiana Tech OLB Jaylon Ferguson at Senior Bowl

The Denver Broncos spoke with Louisiana Tech edge defender Jaylon Ferguson at the Senior Bowl last month, according to Draft Wire’s Gavino Borquez. Ferguson owns the NCAA record for the most sacks by a single player.

During his four years with the Bulldogs, Ferguson (6-5, 262 pounds) recorded 187 tackles — including 67.5 tackles for losses — and 45 sacks. He also broke up six passes, recovered three fumbles and forced seven fumbles.

Ferguson’s best season came in 2018 when he recorded 65 tackles and 17.5 sacks. He played defensive end in college but he might be asked to transition to outside linebacker if selected by a team with a 3-4 defense.

“Ferguson comes off the ball with long strides and has no trouble translating the speed to power,” Borquez wrote of the defender last month. “He gets his hands extended to control offensive linemen and create backward movement, or setting the edge.”

With both Shane Ray and Shaq Barrett about to become free agents, the Broncos would be wise to add more depth to the outside linebacker position. Ferguson may be one of the prospects the team is considering.

Ferguson is projected to be a third-round pick, according to FullPressCoverage.com. Denver owns one third-round pick this year.
