Broncos met with DL Renell Wren at NFL combine

The Denver Broncos met with Arizona State defensive lineman Renell Wren at the NFL combine earlier this month, according to Chad Jensen of Mile High Huddle. Broncos general manager John Elway got a close look at Wren when he attended ASU’s pro day last week.

Wren (6-5, 318 pounds) ran a 40-yard dash in 5.01 seconds and bench-pressed 225 pounds 30 times at the combine. NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein has compared him to Kedric Golston, who was a sixth-round pick in the 2006 NFL draft.

During his four years with the Sun Devils, Wren totaled 81 tackles (including 14.5 tackles for losses) and three sacks. He also intercepted a pass, broke up five passes and forced a fumble.

“Wren will appeal to teams with his relentless playing temperament, quickness, and power to control the point of attack,” Draft Wire’s Gavino Borquez wrote of the defensive lineman in February.

If selected by the Broncos in April’s draft, Wren would likely play as an interior defensive lineman in the team’s 3-4 defense.
