Broncos met with DL Darryl Johnson at NFL combine

The Denver Broncos had an informal meeting with North Carolina A&T edge defender Darryl Johnson at the NFL combine earlier this month, according to Chad Jensen of Mile High Huddle. Johnson is a tweener defensive end/outside linebacker prospect.

Johnson (6-6, 253 pounds) did not run a 40-yard dash at the combine but he did bench-press 225 pounds 20 times. During his three years with the Aggies, Johnson totaled 86 tackles and 16.5 sacks.

Though he will likely be a late-round prospect in this year’s class, Johnson believes he has what it takes to succeed in the NFL.

“I think my love for the game, determination, length and athletic ability is important and will help in being successful at the next level,” Johnson said during a recent interview with Damond Talbot of NFL Draft Diamonds.

In 2014, Shaq Barrett joined the Broncos as an undrafted free agent out Colorado State and he went on to become an important rotational pass rusher. After losing Barrett during free agency, Denver could use more depth at edge defender. Johnson may be one of the prospects they’re considering.
