Broncos may start LB Alexander Johnson in Week 1

Broncos starting inside linebacker Todd Davis (calf) has not practiced yet this week, which means he’s unlikely to play against the Raiders on “Monday Night Football” in Week 1.

If Davis doesn’t suit up in Oakland, who will be his replacement?

“There will be a bunch of guys in there sharing the duties,” coach Vic Fangio said Friday.

OK, but who would start?

According to Denver’s depth chart, Alexander Johnson is Davis’ backup. Johnson went undrafted in 2015 after being accused of rape in 2014. He then spent three years out of football before being acquitted on rape charges last July and signing with the Broncos.

Johnson now has a shot to start in Week 1, though defensive coordinator Ed Donatell said Friday that Davis’ replacement has not yet been named.

“We’ll be confident with what we put in place,” Donatell said. “It’s yet to be determined. We’re trying some combinations. In Game 1, there’s always some roster adjustments at the end and this is a year where we’re doing some of those as we work through our preparation.”

Monday’s game (8:20 p.m. MT) will be nationally televised on ESPN.
