Broncos lose to Raiders 24-16 in season opener

The Denver Broncos opened the 2019 NFL season with a 24-16 road loss to the Oakland Raiders on Monday night.

The game marked the final “Monday Night Football” contest played at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum. The Raiders are scheduled to move to a stadium currently under construction in Las Vegas in 2020.

Oakland jumped out to a 14-0 halftime lead, and Denver’s second-half comeback attempt proved to be too little, too late.

Raiders rookie running back Josh Jacobs dominated in his NFL debut, totaling 113 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns. Oakland quarterback Derek Carr also turned in an impressive performance, finishing the game with a 121 passer rating.

New Broncos quarterback Joe Flacco had a decent showing, throwing for 268 yards, one touchdown pass and no interceptions. He finished the contest with a 105.3 passer rating.

Up next for Denver is a home game against the Chicago Bears in Week 2. That contest (2:25 p.m. MT on Sept. 15) will mark coach Vic Fangio’s first game against his former team. The game will air on Fox.
