Broncos lose TE Austin Fort to season-ending ACL injury

Broncos undrafted rookie tight end Austin Fort suffered a torn ACL in Denver’s 22-14 loss to the Seahawks in Week 1 of preseason on Thursday evening. The news was first reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Fort’s 2019 season is now over.

Fort (6-4, 244 pounds) joined the team as a college free agent out of Wyoming following April’s draft. He is the fourth tight end to go down with an injury this summer, joining Jake Butt (knee), Bug Howard (ankle) and Jeff Heuerman (shoulder).

The injuries to Butt and Heuerman do not seem to be serious but after losing Fort, Denver is getting thin at the position. The only healthy tight ends on the roster are rookies Noah Fant and Moral Stephens and first-year player Troy Fumagalli.

After the Broncos place Fort on injured reserve, it wouldn’t be surprising to see the team fill his spot on the roster with another TE. With three preseason games to go, Denver needs as much depth as possible.
