Broncos lose backup guard Netane Muti to a division rival

The Denver Broncos have lost one of their top backup offensive linemen to a division rival.

The Las Vegas Raiders are signing guard Netane Muti off Denver’s practice squad to their active roster, according to a report from KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis.

It’s a surprising development because Denver does not have much depth on the offensive line and the Broncos could have promoted Muti to their own 53-man roster to prevent the Raiders from signing him.

After Graham Glasgow moved from guard to center as an injury fill-in, Muti was left as one of the team’s top remaining reserve guards behind regular starters Dalton Risner and Quinn Meinerz.

Muti played 28 snaps against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday in the place of an injured Risner, and he started four games during his Bronco career.

Muti (6-3, 315 pounds) fell to Denver in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL draft out of Fresno State. Muti’s college film was extremely impressive, but he missed extensive time in college due to injuries, which hurt his stock. Before the draft, Muti turned heads when he bench-pressed 225 pounds 44 times.

Muti did not make the Broncos’ initial 53-man roster in September, which perhaps was an early sign that Denver’s front office does not rate the guard quite as highly as some Broncos fans.
