Broncos LB Todd Davis expected to play against Packers

Broncos starting inside linebacker Todd Davis suffered a calf injury on the first day of training camp in July and missed the team’s first two games of the season. After practicing this week, Davis is expected to make his season debut against the Packers on Sunday.

That’s good news for Denver’s defense.

“The biggest thing [he brings] is experience,” Broncos defensive coordinator Ed Donatell said of Davis on Friday. “This guy’s an experienced guy. He’s been with Reggie Herring, our linebackers coach, so we know what he can do, but he missed a big block of time — he’s a guy that studies really hard. He’s a smart player and he’s looked good in the preparation so far.”

Davis, 27, started all 16 games last season and totaled 114 tackles. He spent extra time studying Vic Fangio’s scheme while recovering from his calf injury, which should help him make an instant impact in Week 3.

“He can tell you everything he needs to tell you,” Fangio said of Davis on Friday. “He just hasn’t had all the reps that he lost of executing it, but he does know what to do.”

Sunday’s game will begin at 11:00 a.m. MT (view the TV map here).
