Denver Broncos quarterback Russell Wilson (hamstring) is questionable for Sundayâs game against the New York Jets.
Wilson has been pushing to play and he has said he is a fast healer, jokingly suggesting that his âwolverine bloodâ helps him recover quickly.
Denverâs staff, though, wonât want Wilson to play through the injury if heâs not ready.
âWe want to put somebody out there thatâs healthy and can go out there and play at a high level,â coach Nathaniel Hackett said Thursday.
Wilson is the teamâs obvious QB1, but the Broncos will not want to risk worsening his injury if Wilson is not cleared to play.
âYou donât want to put anybody out there that isnât healthy,â Hackett said.
If Wilson is not cleared to play this weekend, Brett Rypien is the most likely candidate to start in his place (Josh Johnson is also available on the practice squad). Rypien helped the Broncos defeat the Jets 37-28 in his first (and only) career start in 2020.
