Broncos injuries: At least 3 players won’t suit up against Seahawks

Broncos coach Vic Fangio confirmed after practice Tuesday that linebacker Josey Jewell (oblique strain), cornerback Bryce Callahan (foot) and offensive guard Ron Leary (Achilles recovery) will not play against the Seahawks in Week 1 of NFL preseason on Thursday evening.

Fangio did not specifically mention wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders (Achilles recovery), inside linebacker Todd Davis (calf), linebacker Joe Jones (triceps), tight end Jake Butt (ACL) or tight end Bug Howard (ankle), but those five players are not expected to play, either.

Fangio said Jewell will be fine, stating that the linebacker is dealing with “a short-term thing.” The coach was uncertain about the status of tight end Jeff Heuerman (shoulder) for Thursday.

“He’s got a little shoulder — he got some treatment on it yesterday that necessitated him not practicing today, but he still may play Thursday, maybe not,” Fangio said of Heuerman. “I don’t think it’s anything to be concerned about.”

Fangio also confirmed that quarterback Joe Flacco and superstar outside linebacker Von Miller will play in Seattle. Neither player is expected to play more than a few series.
