Broncos injuries: 3 tight ends return to practice

Denver Broncos tight ends Jake Butt (knee) Bug Howard (ankle) and Jeff Heuerman (shoulder) were back at practice Sunday. That’s great news for the Broncos after the team lost tight end Austin Fort to a season-ending ACL injury against the Seattle Seahawks last week.

Denver considered signing a tight end after Fort went down but there were limited options available.

“We did, but they don’t grow on trees like most positions this time of year with 32 teams in camp and 90 guys on everybody’s roster,” Broncos coach Vic Fangio said after practice Sunday. “Our tight end position has gotten hit hard, but we still have six, albeit that a couple of them are limited, Jake being the leader.”

In addition to Butt, Howard and Heuerman, Denver also has Noah Fant, Troy Fumagalli and Moral Stephens.

Elsewhere on the injury front, defensive backs Kareem Jackson and Horace Richardson did not practice Sunday. Fangio did not seem to think either player has a serious injury.

“Kareem’s just kind of tweaked his hamstring a little bit, so we’re being cautious with that,” the coach said. “It’s kind of the same thing with Horace.”
