Broncos hope RB Melvin Gordon will be fully healthy ‘sooner rather than later’

Eight players were held out of Broncos practice on Saturday with injuries and outside linebacker Bradley Chubb (knee) and right guard Graham Glasgow (ankle) left the practice session.

Denver running back Melvin Gordon (ribs) suited up for Saturday’s practice but he did not participate in the full team reps. Broncos coach Vic Fangio was asked Saturday if he’s concerned about Gordon missing recent 11-on-11 portions of practice.

“It’s a product of his rib injury,” Fangio said. “Yeah, there’s a concern any time someone misses, particularly a new guy. We think he will be back sooner rather than later. We’re hoping for that. We need him.”

Gordon spent the first five years of his career with the Chargers, rushing for 4,240 and 36 touchdowns from 2015-2019. Gordon has also proved to be a reliable receiving back, catching 224 passes for 1,873 yards and 11 scores in his career.

After signing a two-year, $16 million contract with Denver this offseason, Gordon is expected to serve as the Broncos’ starter this fall.
