Broncos have 4th-most salary cap space in the NFL

The Denver Broncos have the fourth-most salary cap space in the NFL, according to ESPN’s Field Yates. Denver currently has $29,541,191 in 2020 cap space.

A large part of that $29.5 million was created when right tackle Ja’Wuan James opted out of the season. James’ contract will toll (pause) so what he was owed this season no longer counts against the cap (until next year).

The Broncos are expected to use some of their cap space to sign veteran right tackle Demar Dotson, who will likely sign this week. Dotson is one of 10 free agent right tackles Denver likely considered after James opted out.

The Broncos have the most cap space in the AFC West, ahead of the Los Angeles Chargers ($13,675,353), Kansas City Chiefs ($13,003,035) and Las Vegas Raiders ($3,292,623). The Tampa Bay Buccaneers ($1,391,927) have the least salary cap space in the league.

In addition to signing Dotson, Denver might also consider bringing in another cornerback this offseason. The list of free agent cornerbacks still available includes Logan Ryan, Dre Kirkpatrick and Trumaine Johnson.
