Broncos GM John Elway on NFL free agency: ‘We’re still working on it’

Story update: After this post was scheduled, the Broncos agreed to terms with cornerback Bryce Callahan on a three-year contract. See our original post below.

Three days since the official start of NFL free agency, the Denver Broncos have acquired three new players so far: quarterback Joe Flacco (via trade), offensive tackle Ja’Wuan James and defensive back Kareem Jackson.

Denver still has some salary cap space to work with so general manager John Elway may not be done making moves just yet.

“We’re still working on it,” Elway said during a press conference Friday. “Obviously it just opened a couple days ago, so we’re still working on it and still trying to get some things done that we need to be done.

“We’ll get through free agency, try to fill some holes there and try to get some guys back that want to be back. We’ll go from there then also start working on the draft after that. We’re really excited about the way it’s gone so far with Joe as well as Ja’Wuan and Kareem. It’s been a really good start for us.”

Shortly after Elway spoke with the media on Friday, the team re-signed tight end Jeff Heuerman on a two-year deal. That was likely one of the signing Elway indicated the Broncos were trying to get done.

Denver may be done making splash moves but it wouldn’t be surprising to see Elway makes a few more value signings.
