Broncos GM John Elway comments on drafting Dalton Risner and Drew Lock

The Denver Broncos used back-to-back picks (Nos. 41 and 42) in the second round of the 2019 NFL draft on Friday evening. With those picks, the team landed offensive lineman Dalton Risner and quarterback Drew Lock.

After the team made their two selections, Broncos general manager John Elway took to Twitter to comment on the two picks. The team’s GM was quick to point out that Lock won’t be pushing Joe Flacco for the starting job.

Risner has played all across the offensive line but he is projected to be a right guard in Denver. Lock will “compete for the backup” job behind Flacco, according to Elway.

Lock’s competition for the backup job will be Kevin Hogan. It’s probably a safe bet to assume the rookie will be able to win that competition.

The Broncos now have four picks remaining in the NFL draft. The team is scheduled to make one more selection on Friday and three more selections on Saturday.
