Broncos flyer Arthars re-signs until 2026

Brisbane outside back Jesse Arthars has inked a three-year contract extension after he was given a chance to shine as a starting winger this year through injury to winger Corey Oates.

The 24-year-old has taken his chance superbly after Oates broke his jaw during the round-two win over North Queensland and will aim to continue his form in Saturday night's clash with Canberra at Suncorp Stadium.

"It's exciting for myself and my family so I'm happy to be staying here for another three years," Arthars said.

"That's pretty unfortunate for Corey breaking his jaw, but when I got called in I just wanted to fill his spot and do the job the best I can. We are clicking at the moment, so I am glad to be a part of it and hopefully we can keep building.

"We have a next-man up mentality and I'm no different. I'm going to hold onto the position for as long as I can.

"I'm lucky the club has put their faith in me and I want to repay that. There were a few other clubs keen, but I was really keen to stay."

Arthars, who can fill any position in the outside backs, has played in all five games this year. A fractured eye socket to Reece Walsh led to a backline reshuffle in the round-one win over Penrith where Arthars also did a great job on the wing.

Last year Arthars was given permission by the Broncos to go out on loan for a season due to their surplus of outside backs, where he built a combination with Reece Walsh who is now Brisbane's No.1.

"I went to the Warriors to get some NRL experience and I look back on it now and I'm thankful to the Broncos for giving me that opportunity," he said.

"It was good for my football and my confidence and I'm running with it now.

"Reece is a very exciting talent. To see him coming through now, he is flourishing and hopefully he gets more long balls to me so I can score tries.

"We were at the Warriors at the same time, but me and Reece love the Broncos and our focus is on playing good footy for the club."
