Broncos feel good about safeties on roster but they’re ‘always looking’ for more options

After releasing Darian Stewart, the Broncos’ got a little thinner at safety. Denver still has Justin Simmons and Will Parks and Su’a Cravens may be back in 2018 as well.

During a press conference Friday, Broncos general manager John Elway seemed to imply that the team is content with the safeties currently on the roster — but that doesn’t rule out any draft prospects.

“We’re always looking,” Elway said. “We have some young guys that we feel good about there at safety. We’ll continue to try and get better there . . . . We feel good about the young safeties we have, but again, we’ll go into the draft with our eyes wide open and try to find the best football players we can.”

Denver also signed defensive back Kareem Jackson, who can play both as a cornerback and as a safety. Jackson’s versatility will give the team extra flexibility in the draft.

If the Broncos love a cornerback prospect, Jackson could potentially move to safety. If Denver drafts a safety, Jackson could play as a cornerback. For now, though, it’s probably safe to assume the Broncos haven’t ruled out adding depth to the secondary through the draft.
