Broncos fear serious injuries for Joe Jones and Billy Winn

Denver Broncos linebacker Joe Jones and defensive lineman Billy Winn both left Thursday’s preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons with injuries. The two defenders will have MRIs on Friday but the early signs are not good.

Denver fears that Jones and Winn both suffered partially torn triceps, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis. Depending on the severity of the triceps tears, the two players could be looking at season-ending injuries.

Jones (6-foot, 240 pounds) joined the team late in the 2017 season and quickly emerged as a key special teams contributor. He dressed for the final seven games of 2017 and played in all 16 games last season.

Winn (6-4, 300 pounds) spent all 16 games with the Broncos in 2016, totaling 19 tackles. He then suffered a season-ending injury in the team’s first preseason game of 2017. After Winn sat out the 2018 season, Denver brought him back in April but it appears his poor injury luck has struck again.

If the Broncos have to place Jones and Winn on the injured reserve list, it would open up two spots on the 90-man offseason roster. One of those roster spots will likely go to running back Theo Riddick, who is expected to sign with Denver this week, perhaps as early as Friday.
