Broncos expected to target cornerbacks during NFL free agency

The Denver Broncos are expected to sign a starter-caliber cornerback during NFL free agency, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis. Notable free agents this year include Ronald Darby (Philadelphia Eagles) and Bryce Callahan (Chicago Bears).

This news is not surprising after coach Vic Fangio was noncommittal on the status of Bradley Roby at the NFL combine. Fangio hinted that the team will allow Roby to rest the open market during free agency.

After trading away Aqib Talib last offseason and potentially losing Roby this year, Denver’s cornerback depth is getting slim. It wouldn’t be surprising to see the team address the position both during free agency and through the draft.

Chris Harris will be back this year but the team needs to add at least one more quality cornerback to pair with him. The team would probably be thrilled if Isaac Yiadom emerged as a serviceable No. 3 cornerback this offseason but that’s certainly not guaranteed to happen.

NFL teams can begin negotiating with free agents on March 11.
