Broncos expect WR Emmanuel Sanders to play in preseason

Broncos wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders tore his Achilles last December, prematurely ending his 2018 season and putting his status for the 2019 season opener in doubt.

Sanders recovered quickly from the injury, though, and coach Vic Fangio said after practice Monday that he expects the receiver to play at some point during preseason. Denver has three more exhibition contests this month before facing the Raiders in Week 1 of the regular season on Sept. 9.

“If you guys remember, I kind of predicted it in the spring. My medical background gives me that prediction power,” Fangio joked. “I thought he would make it back quicker than most and he has. He looks fine.

“I’ve asked the guys that have been here in the past to compare him to what he’s been in the past because I don’t have a past for him, and they don’t see any difference right now.”

Fangio did not specify which game Sanders might make his return to the field. The 32-year-old receiver totaled 949 yards from scrimmage last season and scored six touchdowns, including one TD pass and one rushing score. Sanders will become a free agent in 2020.
