Broncos drop one spot in NFL power rankings

Following a 26-24 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday, the Denver Broncos dropped one spot in Nate Davis’ latest NFL power rankings, falling down to No. 28 overall. That’s the fifth-worst ranking in the league.

Here is Davis’ commentary with Denver’s ranking:

Season spirals further with LB Bradley Chubb suffering ACL tear. And, to think, Denver likely could have kept Shaq Barrett for just $5 million or so.

It’s actually not “likely” that the Broncos could have re-signed Barrett because he wanted to leave the team to sign somewhere where he believed he would have a better chance to start.

Barrett knew he was unlikely to start over Von Miller or Chubb.

Denver placed Chubb on season-ending injured reserve Tuesday and signed outside linebacker Jeremiah Attaochu to take his place on the 53-man roster. Attaochu is a former second-round draft pick who has recorded 12 sacks in his career.

Attaochu will likely compete with Malik Reed for playing time.
