Broncos drop 7 spots in NFL.com’s power rankings

After a strong first week of free agency, the Broncos surprisingly dropped seven spots in NFL.com’s power rankings, down to No. 25. Dan Hanzus seemingly gave no explanation for the drop besides perhaps the fact that Denver doesn’t have a big-name backup quarterback?

Hanzus mentioned the team acquiring Jurrell Casey, signing Graham Glasgow and adding Melvin Gordon (but didn’t mention the addition of A.J. Bouye) and then ended his commentary on Denver with this:

Will Elway bring in another veteran QB to serve as insurance behind unproven second-year passer Drew Lock? Cam Newton, Andy Dalton and Jameis Winston could all improve a suspect QB room.

Hanzus doesn’t seem to be much of a believer in Lock and he apparently isn’t happy at all with the thought of Jeff Driskel serving as the backup. The team’s “suspect QB room” is the only negative commentary with the Broncos’ ranking so the team falling seven spots is a curious development.

In Touchdown Wire’s latest power rankings, Denver is ranked No. 24.
