The Denver Broncos had the best defense in the NFL when they won the Super Bowl in 2016 and while only a few players from that squad remain on the roster, the defense is still full of talent.
So when the defense has something good to say about the quarterback they face every day in practice, we take notice.
“That man has a cannon, I can tell you that,” defensive lineman Shelby Harris said of Joe Flacco after practice on May 31. “That man can throw the ball. When you have a Super Bowl MVP as your starting quarterback, it kind of put a calming feeling on the offense.
“They’re in the right hands. Especially with a new offensive coordinator, it’s sometimes kind of a frenzy thing, but he’s out there and he’s calling the shots. I really like it. I really like what they’re doing on offense.”
Harris isn’t Denver’s only defender that feels that way about Flacco. In May, cornerback Bryce Callahan also described the QB’s arm as a “cannon.” Broncos fans can only hope that will help the team’s offense create big plays in 2019.
Denver hasn’t reached the postseason since 2015, which was Peyton Manning’s final year and the season the Broncos defeated the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50. Flacco will be aiming to help the team return to the postseason this fall.
