Denver Broncos defensive lineman DeShawn Williams will miss the final two games of the season with an elbow injury, coach Vic Fangio announced Monday.
Williams (6-1, 292 pounds) “got his left elbow hyperextended” in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s loss to the Las Vegas Raiders, according to KUSA-TV’s Mike Klis. Before leaving the game, Williams totaled six tackles.
“Hate I can’t finish the last two games, nothing like playing for my brothers,” Williams wrote on his Twitter page. “Playing ball is my joy, want to say thank you #BroncosCountry for the support. Heeling up for next year is 💪🏾🙏🏾🦍.”
Williams played in all 15 games this season, earning eight starts. He recorded 39 tackles, five quarterback hits, two pass breakups and one sack in those contests. Williams, who will turn 29 tomorrow, is scheduled to become a restricted free agent in the spring.
With Williams sidelined and Mike Purcell on the Reserve/COVID-19 list, Denver’s remaining healthy defensive linemen on the active roster are Shelby Harris, Dre’Mont Jones, Shamar Stephen and McTelvin Agim.
Once he clears COVID-19 protocol, defensive lineman Jonathan Harris would be a logical candidate to be promoted from the practice squad if Williams is placed on injured reserve.
