Broncos cut RB Khalfani Muhammad

The Denver Broncos cut running back Khalfani Muhammad on Saturday, according to a report from Ryan O’Halloran of The Denver Post.

Muhammad (5-9, 174 pounds) entered the league as a seventh-round pick out of California with the Tennessee Titans in 2017. After spending most of his rookie season on the Titans’ practice squad, Muhammad spent part of last summer with the New England Patriots.

The Broncos added Muhammad to their practice squad last December and re-signed him for 2019 in January. He emerged as a fan favorite during preseason, leading the team with 146 rushing yards. Muhammad also caught nine passes for 55 yards and scored one touchdown this summer.

Denver couldn’t afford to carry five running backs and a fullback on the active roster and the team chose a more experienced option in Devontae Booker over Muhammad. The Broncos will likely try to sign Muhammad to their 10-man practice squad.

Phillip Lindsay, Royce Freeman, Booker, Theo Riddick and Andy Janovich are expected to make the initial 53-man roster.
