Broncos coach Vic Fangio thinks Drew Lock and Noah Fant have mild injuries

Denver Broncos quarterback Drew Lock (hand) and tight end Noah Fant (foot) were both injured in Monday’s preseason game against the San Francisco 49ers. After a 24-15 loss, Broncos coach Vic Fangio said he believed both injuries were “mild in nature.”

The team will know more about both injuries Tuesday.

Before leaving the game, Lock went 7-of-12 passing for 40 yards and rushed twice for 11 yards. X-rays came back negative for the right-handed QB.

Lock, 22, was selected by Denver in the second round of April’s draft. He is competing with Kevin Hogan for the backup QB job behind starter Joe Flacco and he appears to have taken the lead over Hogan.

Lock is still listed as the No. 3 quarterback on the Broncos’ depth chart but he was the second QB to play in Monday’s game against San Francisco. Flacco was replaced by Lock in the first quarter, giving the rookie a chance to get some reps with Denver’s first-team offense.

The Broncos will have off Tuesday before returning to practice Wednesday. Denver will travel to face the Seattle Seahawks on the road in Week 3 of NFL preseason on Saturday, Aug. 24 at 7 p.m. MT.
