Broncos coach Vic Fangio still hasn’t passed kidney stones

Broncos coach Vic Fangio was treated for kidney stones in a Cleveland hospital last Thursday before Denver played the Falcons in the Hall of Fame Game. Fangio was unable to pass the stones but still coached the game, a 14-10 preseason-opening win.

Some Broncos players didn’t even know their coach was dealing with the ailment.

“Yeah, I didn’t know that man, that was crazy,” cornerback Chris Harris said after practice Sunday. “That would be kind of hard to do. Especially kidney stones, that’s a lot of pain right there.

“Hopefully they gave him the right medicine for him to get through it. But he seemed very calm and very good on the sidelines. Like he’s been there before.”

Three days removed from the Hall of Fame Game, Fangio said he still hasn’t passed the stones.

“It’s still in there,” Fangio said after practice Thursday. “It’s kind of moody. It acts up sometimes and sometimes it doesn’t. During practice today it was fine. Yesterday afternoon it wasn’t so fine so it’s kind of moody.”

Fangio will presumably coach again Thursday even if the stones have not passed by then. It seems nothing will stop him from coaching.
